History of Cappadocia

Cappadocia, the unique miracle of the natural world created by mother nature with careful attention, the treasure of history and culture, the human and art phenomenon with its Fairy Chimneys that form spaces suitable for fairies and which have incomparably curved rocks, with the places of worship and shelter built underground at a level so many meters below the surface, offers its extraordinary wonders to the life of the people visiting her in a magical atmosphere garnishing them with aesthetic elegance. You have to feel the mystery of the Cappadocia Region the formation of which started millions of years ago and is yet ongoing.

In the geological term, after the explosions of Erciyes and Hasan Volcanos , the lava formed in different shapes with the effects of rivers, strong winds and the flood.

Cappadocia had homed many civilizations like Hititi, Kimmerian, Frigian, Roman, Persian and Byzantine Empire. There are underground cities that hollowed in rocks and hudreds of churches made of rock with the height of 1100 metres in this unique place maked up with the fairy chimneys.
Cappadocia has rich cultural items, there are approximately 150-200 uderground cities. Most of them had built by deeply digging the ground by people for security as the area had faced with too many attacks. The cities have secret gangways to other ancient secret cities.
